Who runs Specs
Specs is made by Roei Shitrit, an independent developer in Israel. Questions about your data: specsai.app@gmail.com.
What the app keeps
The tools you picked, whether you build AI products, and what you do with the cards: your swipes, "Show me how", "Show me more", finishing the day (for your streak), and your To try list (what you saved and what you tried), each with its time; which cards it showed you each day, and when you last opened the app. That is how it picks your cards.
No name, no email
An account made with Start has no name at all. An invite code carries the first name it was made for.
No IP address
Our server does not save your IP address. It uses it only in memory, to limit how many requests one network can send. There are no ads and no tracking.
Error reports
When the app or our server fails, a report goes to Sentry, a service that collects errors, on servers in the EU: what went wrong, where in the code, and which request failed. From the app it also carries its last requests before the failure (only their type, result and server, not what was in them), the phone's model, system, language and time zone, and its memory and storage at that moment. No account, no name, no code, no token, no IP address and no list of what you did. "Report a problem" sends your words with the same details.
Updates
The app checks Expo's servers for updates and downloads them from there. Like any download, Expo sees your phone's IP address, and a random number the app makes so Expo can count its users. Nothing that names you.
Morning card
If you turn it on, our server keeps your phone's notification address and its time zone, to send one notification at 9:00. It goes through Expo's push service to Apple. While it is on, the app registers with Expo each time it opens, and Expo sees your IP address and the app's random number. We count whether you open it, to learn which wording works. Turning it off, or deleting your data, deletes the address on our server.
Who else handles your data
Railway hosts our server and its database, in the US. Sentry receives error reports, in the EU. Expo checks for updates and passes notifications on to Apple, which delivers them. GitHub keeps our encrypted weekly backups, which it can't open.
Deleting
An account made with Start and not used for 180 days is deleted, with everything in it. "Delete my data" in Settings deletes your account and everything our server keeps about you at once. Error reports stay at Sentry for up to 30 days, and encrypted backups for up to 8 weeks; then they are deleted.
